The 360° rule for bends
Between pull points (boxes, conduit bodies, fittings you can pull from) a run may have no more than 360° of bends in total. The rule is the same in every raceway article: 358.26 for EMT, 352.26 for PVC, 344.26 for rigid, 342.26 for IMC, 348.26 for flex.
Adding them up
- A 90 is 90°. Four of them is the limit.
- An offset is two bends: two 30° bends add 60°.
- A three-point saddle around a pipe is three bends, often 45° in the middle and 22-1/2° on each side: 90°.
- A kick into a box counts too.
Why it exists
Pulling force grows quickly with each bend. Past 360° the wire can be damaged on the pull. For full pipes or long runs, plan a pull point well before the limit.
The material list warns when a run's 90s add up to more than 360°.
